The roots of Bethany Gospel Chapel extend back to the "Plymouth Brethren Movement", a renewal which swept across the United Kingdom, Europe, and around the world in the early part of the nineteenth century. This affiliation is observable to this day in the support of common Bible camps, conferences, service agencies, and traditions. Apart from this informal association, Bethany Gospel Chapel is an independent, autonomous church, not being under the control or direction of any ecclesiastical body.

Bethany Gospel Chapel began in the early 1900‚s, as preachers of the gospel came from various places to preach the good news of Jesus Christ in Regina. Earliest records indicate these Christians fellowshipped together on the 1800 block of Smith Street, in 1914.

Although many years have come and gone, we who now fellowship at Bethany Gospel Chapel believe the true Church is composed of all believers, from the time of Pentecost to the return of Christ. With Jesus Christ as the Lord and Head, this true Church finds expression in each locality. All believers in a given locality compose the local church in that area.

Since it is not always practical for all believers in a given city or locality to meet in a common way or place, we believe it is proper and scriptural to meet in smaller groups of believers (Bethany Gospel Chapel being one of these), thereby giving expression of our oneness, where possible, without negating our God-given responsibilities to and for our own immediate group.

Scriptural references:

Matthew 16:18

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Acts 2:41-47

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all [men], as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

1 Corinthians 12:12-27

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also [is] Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body [were] an eye, where [were] the hearing? If the whole [were] hearing, where [were] the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where [were] the body? But now [are they] many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those [members] of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely [parts] have more abundant comeliness. For our comely [parts] have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that [part] which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but [that] the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

Galatians 3:27,28

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 1:22,23

And hath put all [things] under his feet, and gave him [to be] the head over all [things] to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
